πŸ“™ Task(s)

Your task is to put together a document that contains two short paragraphs at the beginning, followed by a Glossary of Terms related to Networking.

Paragraph 1

In your own words, explain what a network of computers is. Limit your response to under 250 words.

Paragraph 2

In your own words, explain the benefits of setting up and using a wireless network over a wired network at home. In contrast, explain the benefits of a wired network over a wireless network. Include specific hardware requirements for each type of network. Limit your response to under 500 words.

Glossary of Terms

Create a glossary of terms used in networking. The following list contains some of the terms to include in your glossary. It is up to you to add in any you believe are necessary, and your glossary should be in alphabetical order when complete. Limit each term's definition/description to 150 words or less.

  • mesh topology, star topology, bus topology, ring topology, tree topology, Peer-to-Peer (P2P), Client-Server, LAN, WAN, WLAN, SAN, VPN, IP, IPv6, TCP, UDP, IP, FTP, sFTP, SMTP, POP3, HTTP, HTTPS, XML, GPRS, 2G, 3G, LTE, 5G, router, modem, firewall, bridge, repeater, hub, switch, fiber optic cable, coaxial cable, twisted pair cabling, patch cables, CAT3, CAT5, CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6a, NIC, VoIP.

Citations

For the above tasks, complete the following regarding citations:

  • Cite your work using IEEE format.
  • Cite all images used. You can provide a list of hyperlinks to the images used.

Due Dates and Submission Details

Please see the due dates page for more details on when this is due and how to submit your work.

Learning Goals and Success Criteria

The Overarching Learning Goal for this is Computer Systems. The specific learning goal(s) for this include:

  • We are learning to describe hardware components and assess users’ needs thereof.
Success Criteria Look Fors
I can describe the benefits of using one type of network over another. πŸ“™ * can identify all components required for a wired network,
* can identify all components required for a wireless network,
* discussion points for benefits of each type of network are accurate, clear, and concise
I can identify and describe various networking protocols concisely. πŸ“™ * any acronyms used have been explained,
* specific terminology included for all terms,
* descriptions included for all terms provided,
* clear descriptions for each term,
* descriptions are accurate,
* wording is clear and concise,
* extra terms included
