User Documentation

The usage of Diarium is centered around the daily journaling and the viewing of memories from the previous years.

Getting Started

On the first run, a database file needs to be selected or created, which can just be done via the greeting dialog of Diarium:

Greeting Dialog

Press the button on the right and navigate to the directory where you want Diarium to store the diary entries and photos. Either select an existing Diarium database file there or enter the name of a new file e.g., "diarium.sql". Photos will be stored in a subdirectory next to the database file.

Main View

Journaling is done in the main view that is always visible after starting Darium. Here, the diary entry for the current or another selected day can be created or edited, photos can be added and the locations can be selected. See the following screenshot for an overview on the different parts of the main view:

Photos Management

Pictures in the formats JPG and PNG can just be dragged onto the application window to add them for the currently selected day. To remove a picture, hover the pointer over it and click the appearing trash bin icon.

Locations Management

The locations management can be reached via the Diarium main menu bar (Settings ⇒ Edit locations) or via the location icon right next to the domicile selection dropdown.

Locations Window of Diarium

Locations consist of a country and a city name. Optional details can be added, in case you want to distinguish two locations within the same city. The SSID of a Wi-Fi network can be added to enable Diarium to automatically select a certain domicile, if the corresponding Wi-Fi is available. This can be helpful for locations that you regularly stay at.

Delete a location by pressing the delete key on your keyboard.
