Hey Salvatore,
Over the last few months I've been having a look into smaz with a view to try a trie based version of compression algorithm. It seems to work reasonably well, at least doubling the speed in most cases, and faster again for data which doesn't compress very well.
Not really looking to have this work merged in, however I thought you might be interested in having a look. Also, I don't have a massive amount of experience in C so any feedback, thoughts or pointers you have would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Richard
