Installing pre-built tensor flow with GPU support

The relevant instructions from above are:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa

sudo apt update

sudo ubuntu-drivers autoinstall

sudo reboot

sudo apt install nvidia-cuda-toolkit

sudo apt-get -f intall cuda-9-2

The above commands lead to a runtime error:

import tensorflow as tf

which gives:

ImportError: libcublas.so.9.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory


Failed to load the native TensorFlow runtime.

Solution:

sudo apt-get -f install cuda-9-0

That led to missing:

ImportError: libcudnn.so.7: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Solution: register with NVIDIA and download .deb pacakges for CUDA 9.0. I got both dev and runtime.

Installing from source

not working yet The configure step is failing b/c I am missing a library
