Git message history (ability to bring up previous and next messages)

I'd love to be able to access and re-use previous Git messages. Sometimes I only need to change one word (say, a class name) from a previous commit message, especially if the very same action was performed but on a different unit of work.

In VS Code:

• if the cursor is at the very beginning of the commit message, pressing "Up" will bring up the previous commit message, pressing "Up" again will bring up the one before that, etc, leaving the cursor at the beginning of the message.
• Pressing "Down" will move the cursor to the end of the message (it it's a single line, to the next line if multi-line),
• Once the cursor is at the end of the message, pressing "Down" will bring up the next commit message, if any.

In other words, one can cycle quickly between previous and next messages.
