GPT-5 support from Zed Pro

I don't know if Zed has a deal with Anthropic or what the situation is with Zed Pro but if that's not the case it would be really nice to have GPT-5 available and just to know that Zed is updating Zed Pro with models relatively fast after they come out, even if they're not from Anthropic.

Yes please! I love Zed, and the main reason I'm paying for Zed Pro is because I want to support the project. However, I don't really have the budget to pay for multiple subscriptions if I want to main other models. I will probably keep using Zed but also might have to switch subscriptions if we can't get the best models.

My thoughts exactly. Zed is already worse than the others (Cursor namely) at the context it provides and a bit slower but I pay for it because I believe in the project. The least they can do is the easy step of adding new major models preferably the day they come out.

T3 Chat is a really nice snappy chat app to use instead of the ChatGPT and Claude apps which load chats very slowly. Even though it's such a simple app and the premium subscription is only $8/month, the thing I love about it is that Theo, the maker of it, makes a point of adding new models as soon as they come out, sometimes within less than 30 minutes of them being announced and always within 2-3 hours.

This is not an ad for T3 Chat. I actually stopped using it a while ago (I don't really use the chat interface for LLMs anymore). It's just an example of a similar AI application subscription showing they care about the things devs care about right now, having the latest and greatest tools and models. Because this is a paid subscription that I would say is objectively worse in context and speed to its equivalently priced competitors (just as T3 Chat lacked many features of ChatGPT and Claude like a phone app and voice mode), it is especially important that Zed show it cares in these easy ways while it works on catching up in those harder ways.

what's the deal with Zed not being able to use gpt-5-high?

API request to https://api.openai.com/v1 failed: The model gpt-5-high does not exist or you do not have access to it.

The model appears to be available now on the Zed Pro Plan.

When using chat I only have access to Claude models. Why is that? Even though their included model list has OpenAI and X.ai models.

The legacy $20/month plan doesn't have access to the new models but the new plan does.
