I guess the documentation is in the README.md file, but I want to ensure I'm not missing something here. There is just no reference for this project in the official docs. Is this because of any deprecation of the project? What is the reason this documentation doesn't appear anywhere?

That's correct. The documentation for this project is just that README.
It is actually typical practice in Open Source just explain a simple short project in its README.

As I agreed with you on the spring-projects/spring-integration#3725, the mentioning for this project together with other extensions will be included in the dedicated chapter.
Closing this in favor of that since there is nothing more than README we can do here.
