The release date should be around Christmas.
The first RC (release candidate) should be out around St. Nick's day.

There will be several deprecations! Check out the list below:

This is my proposal of binary deprecations that will be removed in following releases:

• groupmems Deprecate and remove the groupmems utility #1343
• logoutd [rfc] drop everything that conflicts with util-linux #999

I have some PRs which I'd like to have merged for the release. Here's the list, in order of priority:

This one is for removing many lines of code and files:

This group of PRs will allow getting rid of a lot of static variables eventually (and further important simplifications):

• Move shadow APIs to lib/shadow/ #1197 (Please merge this before anything else.) (Done.)
• Replace fgetsx() by fgets(3) and fputsx() by fputs(3) #1056
• lib/commonio.c: Rename structure members that look like libc APIs #1324
• ls #1272

This group removes compiler diagnostics:

• [dd] Remove dead code #1271
• Improve Clang support (regarding attributes) #1320

This group is about string handling (and other related stuff):

• snprintf(3)-related improvements. #1148
• Add STRNCPYTAIL(), and use it instead of its pattern #1304
• Add and use memdup(), MEMDUP(), instead of its pattern #1296
• Add MEMCPY(), and use it instead of its pattern #1308
• lib/: Use simple assignment instead of memcpy(3) #1309
• Add strtcat(), STRTCAT(), and use it instead of its pattern #1334
• Add STRNEQ(), and use it instead of its pattern #1336

This group is about memory management:

• Use a simpler interface for append_range(), based on reallocf(3) #1356

This group is about the build system:

• configure.ac: Propagate ./configure flags to 'distcheck' #1319
