Claude Code Plan Mode

I have recently watched a software engineer using Claude Code on Plan Mode and Cursor IDE. Can one set Claude Code on Plan Mode through Positron Assistant? I found a recommendation to install the Claude Code extension in Positron but I wondered if there's a better approach. Thanks

Claude Code is a separate product that Anthropic offers, different from API access to the underlying models. At this time, we only support authentication to Anthropic via API key, which can be created via your Anthropic/Claude Console. We've got an issue #9481 tracking OAuth with Anthropic. Feel free to upvote 👍 and comment on that issue if you like!

You can use Claude Code in the terminal in Positron (just like any regular terminal) or via the Claude Code extension, but Positron Assistant works with the underlying models currently, and does not have a way to integrate to a product like Claude Code that sits on top of the models. You might think about Claude Code and Positron Assistant being similar in that they provide sets of tools and UI for interacting with the underlying foundation models.

Thanks for the explanation, @juliasilge. I’ve been using Anthropic’s API access and recently subscribed to Copilot. I’m testing different models and agents/tools to help me work on data science projects. The ultimate goal is to deploy the projects' results or models, similar to software engineering projects.

What would change if Anthropic’s OAuth limitation is resolved? I upvoted it. Thanks

If Anthropic changed how they handle OAuth, then we could support that method of authenticating to Anthropic (not just via API key).
