Hello @zhuo-yoyowz and @openvino-dev-samples
My name is Kushagra Bharti, and I’m currently a Computer Science undergrad at the University of Texas at Dallas (expected May 2027). I have strong experience in machine learning, computer vision, and full-stack development. For example, I’ve fine-tuned YOLOv5 models with OpenCV for precise object detection and built interactive web applications using React and Node.js. Recently, I also worked as an ML intern at Abilitie, where I optimized LLM performance on AWS SageMaker and developed end-to-end telemetry systems.
I’m very interested in contributing to OpenVINO through the "Gesture Control with OpenVINO" project. I’m excited about the opportunity to port MediaPipe’s Gesture Recognizer to OpenVINO, creating a real-time gesture control system that enhances user interaction on AI PCs. I realize I’m reaching out a bit late in the GSoC process due to personal circumstances. However, I’m fully committed to investing significant effort to catch up and exceed expectations.
Below is a rough outline of my proposed plan:
Phase 1: Review MediaPipe’s Gesture Recognizer and study OpenVINO’s integration guidelines.
Phase 2: Port the gesture recognizer to OpenVINO and develop a prototype demonstrating reliable, real-time gesture detection.
Phase 3: Optimize the implementation for performance, add robust testing and documentation, and refine the user interface for ease of use.
Additionally, is there anything specific you guys would like to see in my proposal? I am very passionate about this project and plan to give it my all. I’d greatly appreciate any and all guidance or suggestions from the community and mentors. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to collaborating and learning from you all.
Best regards,
Kushagra Bharti
