Is it possible to use docker-desktop kubernetes server with KFP?

Using local DocerRunner has many limitations (can't pass env vars, can mount different dirs, no support for GPUs...)
Can the kubernetes server that come with Docker-Desktop be used to run KFP?
I tried to install KFP in Docker-Desktop kubernetes per the instructions here
The installation succeeded, and I was even able to submit a pipeline, but the UI had all sorts of errors (e.g. "Error: failed to retrieve list of pipelines." and the details say "Unexpected token '<', "<!doctype "... is not valid JSON")

So the question is whether it's at all supported?
