The "problem" here is that behind the scenes the preprocessor uses a temporary module path to simulate the publishing (we would not want or be able to republish the same module), and then we do a replace after the fact. So we haven't actually ever published the module! We should think about how to do that safely in a way that ensures we don't lose consistency with the docs.
