Redis configuration

Hi there, I asked a similar question over at apple/pkl#934 (comment)

Essentially I need to configure a rate limiter with config, and then this gets translated to a redis-cli commands, e.g.

redis-cli -n 6 hmset RL:limits:\$DOMAIN:$1 rate $2 burst $3

Is there some similar translation work I could leverage to be inspired here please?

I might do this in three steps:

1. Create a schema that does a good job of encoding the desired configuration.
2. Write your config to the schema.
3. Write a cue tool file (cue help cmd) that consumes the schema and executes redis-cli with the exec.Run tool.

If you're not familiar with cue tool files maybe experiment with it a bit, they're a bit awkward to write but I like them a lot as a user.

I'm not an expert in Redis, so please forgive any errors that can be attributed to that state of affairs.

A couple of questions:

1. Are you looking to simply "template" the command shown by providing values for $DOMAIN, $1, $2 and $3? Essentially defining a mini-API to wrap this command (and potentially others), validating values the user passes in?
2. Or are you looking to write a schema that more generally represents the arguments that can be passed to redis-cli?

By way of a general response, CUE can help you validate inputs/data at any level you like long that spectrum. And as @infogulch pointed out, you can use workflow commands as a convenience mechanism to wrap calls to other commands.
