You are working on summing the vertical axis.
On mills such as the bridgeport the quill can be at an angle.
The ability to machine at an angle would be advantageous.
For example machining a 45 deg face using the head tilted and machined using the cross feed.
The first cut is made with the quill locked.
The cut the next pass (surface is wider than the cutter) the table needs to be moved vertical and horizontally.
This could be done by notifying when the tool is on the cut plane after "free" movement of both axis.
That is say a movement of ~1" on the saddle (which is harder to move accurately) and then notifying when the table is in the correct relative position.
