The IP Device History tool is primarily meant to provide full search capabilities into the alert logs of NAV.
It is somewhat clunky compared to more modern tools like the Status tool (it also features the same search interface as the Maintenance task subsystem, which we are hoping to replace with something more modern and dynamic (something like #2883)
Some existing feature requests in the tracker have been identified as features that would belong in this tool:
It is my impression that the Device History tool is really just supposed to be superset of the current Status tool: The Status tool currently has lots of filtering options, but is concerned mainly with displaying unresolved alerts. The Device History tool is concerned with display any alerts, and includes time-based filters that the Status tool does not.
The question is, could the Device History and Status tools be merged into a single tool? Perhaps the Status tool, as it stands, could be extended to cover time-based searches and grouping of search results, in order to replace the current Device History tool?
