That lets you have multiple side-by-side views/editors under one tab. Admittedly, managing those splits is not as flexible as what's possible with tabs in obsidian, but the base capability is here.

You're right, and thanks for the correction—I was mistaken in my earlier reply.

Trilium Notes does support split view: you can open multiple side-by-side note editors within the same tab by clicking the "Create new split" button (the split-screen icon next to the note title). You can add as many splits as you want this way, and each split can show a different note. There's also an "Open in a new split" option in the note tree's context menu to open a note directly in a new split within the current tab. Each tab manages its own splits, so you can have different split setups in different tabs.

There are some limitations compared to Obsidian: only horizontal splits are supported (no vertical splits or drag-and-drop rearrangement), and there are no keyboard shortcuts for creating splits. If you use Zen Mode, you need to create the splits first, then reactivate Zen Mode to keep them visible. The sidebar serves all splits in the current tab, and clicking in a split will show the sidebar for that note.
