Asian Lang ---> English translation, what's the best method?

I often need to translate obscure asian movies/shows from Korean/Japanese/Chinese languages to English.
Usually my method goes like video file --- to purfew faster XX (WhisperSync) --- original subs | og subs --> gemini 4.5/DeepSeek -- English.

Sometimes the result is quite good, but most of then not, there's always either subs that are not/wrongly captured by WhisperSync, so the tranlsation is way off.

So I just thought whether anyone else have better experience with any different combo or method?

I recently got into subbing a japanese drama, it is my first time doing something like this. I tried the auto-translate method with a DeepL key and I quickly learned that its not really the best. my way has been manually translating each line in DeepL by Copy/Paste and fixing it when it doesn't quiet make sense or when you have to guess context. this works for me, as i probably wont be doing anything else after this. It takes a very long time. knowing some japanese and being able to read Kana also helps me in this method as well.

That sounds great, but I can't imagine doing it for a whole classic Japanese show with 30+ episodes. I've decided to use Gemini for Japanese/Korean while DeepSeek for Chinese. So far the result has been satisfactory at least.
I've also noticed Gemini often stay true to source (no censorship) compared to other LLM like ChatGPT/DeepSeek.

Lucky for me this drama is only 12 episodes and a 2 hour special. Unfortunately I can only do 9 of the episodes because they are the only episodes I could find with the original Japanese subtitles. If you are interested i have it all on the internet archive. it’s called “Otokotachi no Tabiji” it’s considered a Classic drama and it’s extremely popular in Japan. There was a peculiar thing with the subs that got really messed up with the auto translator so I’ve been doing it manually. I’ve already done the first part which is only 3 episodes at 70 mins each. I’m currently working on the 2nd part now but it’ll be a bit. I’m really enjoying it but also I really don’t have any other fan sub plans lol 😆

That's good, because Whisper's translation is not so good.

Use large-v2 model.
Use --vad_method pyannote_v3
Maybe use --sentence instead of --standard
