This release is mainly to fix a bug in how atmospheres are reconstructed for the "pulse" formats (e.g. FGONG) used in asteroseismology. It also fixes a bug that would cause MESA to crash when rerunning a model that used the Al26 isomers, and switches off an experimental solver feature in RSP that was enabled by default in r21.12.1 and caused convergence issues.

A more detailed list of changes is available in the changelog.

Highlights from the new release include the new Skye EOS (Jermyn et al 2021), addition of an ideal gas EOS, updates to the opacities, a new (experimental) time dependent convection model (TDC), and a new automatic differentiation module (autodiff) for providing numerical partial derivatives. Users using the new version should carefully read the changelog https://docs.mesastar.org/en/r21.12.1/changelog.html as there have been a number of backwards incompatible changes.

r15140

This was the last release of MESA developed in SVN and became the root of the GitHub repository.

Revision 15140 has been designated a MESA release version. This release contains a number of backwards-incompatible changes, including a significant reorganization of the eos & kap options.

Users migrating to the new version should carefully read the Changelog.

The new MESA documentation site, docs.mesastar.org, should now be considered the primary source for MESA reference information. The defaults files documentation for previous versions remains available in the documentation archive on the SourceForge site.
