API Timeout

Hey I'm using the AI API endpoints and responses are now over 30 seconds to sometimes over 60 seconds, which is causing timeout errors our side via our custom chat applications. I've been using the GitBook AI since the day it went live years ago now... and only recently since the co-pilot and API structure change is when the issues are coming in,...

I understand the way you have changed the AI API structure. But this has rendered my chat applications 'non functional'. I think we now have around 100+ SaaS teams using it with their Gitbook projects, across both webchat and social media. Would you be able to roll something back, or make the markdown responses - like how they used to function with the old /ask endpoint for spaces.

Please help find a solution as it's been a 2 year project, and as far as I'm aware we're the only product that can do this... Bringing support chat multi-channel plus syncing with external API's for data enriched responses for SaaS teams- Your latest release in the State of Docs 2025, confirms my application to be ahead, and what is needed... @SamyPesse

Hey @PeteATflochat, We'll release some fixes for this tomorrow. We observed that GPT-5 tends to take significantly longer to reason and invokes a greater number of tools. We have some tweaks to the prompt and settings that will ship in our next release.

Outside performances, have you noticed anything else that changed? We kept our API endpoints retro-compatible, so there shouldn't be any change to the response formatting.

Thanks for the response on a weekend!! Yes so the other issue I've seen is that when using the response format type 'MARKDOWN' it has spaces within the text, where the links are meant to go. So it's more like using the 'DOCUMENT' response format. Which would take X amount of additional API calls to fill those gaps with text titles and hyperlinking them in... Whereas if you can remember back to the ALPHA model Lens AI - the response was neat, and clean.
