Gitbook Assistant AI chat queries mostly results in "Something went wrong."

Recently I enabled the "Assistant" mode for the AI experience options on my Docs site. About 99% of the time when I ask any kind of query to the Gitbook Assistant AI chat, it returns with "Something went wrong." Is this possibly due to the underlying assistant service needing to index content first before it can successfully respond?
